Aim: To install a 200 kW roof mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system on several Government buildings and to provide technical assistance to develop appropriate financial mechanisms

Agency: Energy Unit
Partners: Energy Unit, World Bank, Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, VINLEC
Duration: 1 year
Location: TBD
Cost: US $600,000
Funding: ESMAP SIDS DOCK Trust Fund
Activities:

  • Component 1 – Pilot projects to demonstrate three commercial scale PV systems; one each in Grenada, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • Component 2 – Transaction support and business model reporting to support PV system replication in the Eastern Caribbean

Project Status:

  • Representatives from the World Bank and a consultant visited the country where they met with VINLEC to discuss possible financial arrangements for this project. They also made a site visit to assess the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for the installation of a 200 KW PV system. It was disclosed that this proposed location was not feasible for such a system. They also assessed the buildings at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, Division of Technical and Vocational Education and it was determined that this was a more feasible location. No final decision has been made in this regard.
